Avengers: Doomsday — everything confirmed for 18 December

Avengers: Doomsday reaches cinemas on 18 December 2026, with a Disney+ release following in 2027. After the D23 showcase in August there is finally a solid base of confirmed material to work from.

The returning faces

Robert Downey Jr.'s return as Victor von Doom is the headline, and it is a genuinely unusual move: recasting an actor whose previous MCU role ended definitively, as the antagonist.

D23 also confirmed Chris Evans back as Steve Rogers and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, both appearing onstage alongside Downey and Kevin Feige. Given where Endgame left that pair, their involvement is the clearest signal yet that Doomsday intends to reopen threads the last Avengers film deliberately closed.

Which teams are in it

Marvel has confirmed the film brings together multiple teams rather than one roster: the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, and the X-Men.

The Fantastic Four cast — Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach — carry over, as do Thunderbolts players including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour and Wyatt Russell.

What is not confirmed

Treat the following as open, however confidently it is asserted elsewhere: the full X-Men lineup, which legacy characters appear and for how long, the specific mechanism connecting the multiverse strands, and anything concerning the film after it.
