Correction process

Last reviewed August 13, 2026
Step one

Report the detail

Send the story URL, disputed statement and supporting source.

Step two

Editorial review

The desk checks the original material and relevant primary evidence.

Step three

Visible update

Material corrections receive a clear note on the affected story.

What should be corrected

Factual errors, misleading descriptions, broken attribution and material omissions should be reviewed. A disagreement with a critic's clearly presented opinion is not itself a factual error.

  • Include the exact sentence or claim.
  • Provide the article URL and a reliable supporting source.
  • Explain why the issue changes a reader's understanding.

How decisions are made

The editorial desk compares the report with original notes and the strongest available evidence. The person who wrote the story may contribute context, but a material correction is not blocked to protect a byline or verdict.

How changes appear

A material correction receives a dated note describing the original problem and the corrected information. Clarifications explain wording that was technically accurate but reasonably confusing. Routine typography repairs may be made silently.
