The D23 Doomsday special look: what it shows, and what it withholds

Marvel premiered a new Avengers: Doomsday special look at the D23 Disney Entertainment Showcase in August 2026. Kevin Feige introduced it onstage with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell.

What the footage establishes

• It is Doom's trailer. The presentation centres on Victor von Doom rather than distributing screen time across the ensemble — a deliberate choice for a film with this many characters.
• Sentinels are in play. The footage shows an army of giant Sentinels behind Doom, which is the strongest on-screen link yet between this film and X-Men iconography.
• Evans and Atwell are really in it. Their onstage appearance removes the ambiguity that set photos alone could not settle.

What it is careful not to show

Almost everything else. There is no clear articulation of the plot, no roster shot establishing who fights alongside whom, and no explanation of how the multiverse strands connect.

That restraint is a choice. Marvel has three and a half months of marketing left, and a trailer this early that answered those questions would have nothing to sell in November.

A note on trailer analysis

A great deal of confident commentary about this footage rests on single frames. Trailers are assembled by marketing teams from unfinished material, frequently include shots that do not survive to release, and are colour-graded separately from the film.

The Sentinels are visible and therefore real. What they mean for the story is inference, and worth holding loosely.
